After all he had done, he should have been the last person on Naruto's mind to risk his life to protect. But he had to do it, the battlefield was fierce, and yet he took the time to defend the one person who had hurt him so many times. Physical wounds healed quickly with Naruto, but the deep scars Sasuke had left on his heart would never fully fade away.

So why was it that Naruto found himself risking his life for Sasuke? Wanting to defend him and not any of the other's? The other's who had never harmed him like the Uchiha had. He could have frightened an enemy that was hurting Sakura, but no, it was Sasuke he jumped to defend in the Uchiha's moment of weakness.

Why?

The thought was running though Sasuke's head, why would Naruto risk it all to save him? To get him to a safe place to rest for a moment? It could mean his life, or his death, either way it was dangerous for the idiot to pull off. Didn't he know anything? Didn't the dobe understand a thing?

No, he did understand.

Naruto had always understood him in ways that no one else could possibly understand. The rest of his life he would live for the one who carefully gripped his chin, and turned his face upright to steal a kiss from his weak lips.

"Stay safe."

Naruto's order was law, and Sasuke would stay safe. He would protect the other's that Naruto cared dearly for, because the Dobe had just proven something to Sasuke.

How idiotic he had been. How foolish, it had taken just that simple act to make everything so clear. He wanted nothing more then to react, but instead, Naruto stood up, and jumped into the battle once again, a driving force as Sasuke watched...in awe.

The idiot he had once known was done, and in his place, was an idiotic leader, but still a leader. Someone who inspired everyone else, and words that were once spoken on deaf ears, long ago, could finally become clear to the blood soaked Uchiha.

'For the happiness of other's, for the sake of peace, I am strong. I fight to defend those who can't defend themselves...because I want them to live a peaceful life, even if they don't have the strength to do so. Dying defending someone else, is the greatest gift I could give. Especially someone important...'

It happened in a flash.

Sakura's life was about to come to an end, when someone else took the hit. Someone else was dying now, and someone else was breathing their last breath, while holding on...

Waiting to see those blue eyes, and bright blond hair, one, last time.
