+MLP Friendship is Magic - Applejack+ by supernovadobe +MLP Friendship is Magic - Applejack+ by supernovadobe
:bulletgreen:My Little Pony Friendship is Magic - Applejack:bulletgreen:

:bulletgreen: The costume: I will actually be putting Applejack up for sale soon since as much as I love her, I cannot handle the way the wig sits over my shoulder and how long it is. It was one of the most antagonizing cosplay experiances I think i've ever had. So if anyone is interested please note me XD To break down the outfit for you:

The vest was hand made by me, and the apples were painted on. The pants were leftover from Shura (I love those jeans) the boots I purchased at a thrift store, but the spurs were made by me. The hat was purchased at a thrift store. The gloves were also purchased from another thrift store. The wig was styled by me. The tail was leftover from Lolita Naruto believe it!

I had a lot of fun in MLP, although I didn't get around to posting the pictures sooner because I was away from the internet due to my own lack of time and other reasons. The photoshoot had thirteen ponies, which is a far cry from the original set number of ponies which was 30- I just thank god so many people dropped out. Thirteen was hard enough to handle with TWO photographers.

:iconmasa-kocha: Took the photo, and was just a sweetheart and a half all con!

I truly mean this all in the best way possible. You know that I find you to be a lovely person, and an extremely talented cosplayer, so I deeply hope that none of what I say offends you.

For once, I am truly not a fan of what you did here. As an AJ cosplayer, my opinion here is jaded, and most likely I take this far too personally, but none the less, my opinion is just that, my opinion.

Applejack is very much a "working pony", therefore in my personal opinion, she would never wear shorts like that. I will give you credit for being the only AJ who chose shorts, that DIDN'T choose to go all Daisy Duke on them, but I do not believe shorts are a thing she'd ever wear over simple boot but jeans. All of that aside, her full cutie mark should be on that pocket, not just two apples.

I also do not agree with your choice of top, if only for the fact that it is too short, and what appears to be too tight. Again, AJ is a working pony, and would wear something easy to do her everyday work in, that she would mind getting dirty, and has the functionality. Another reason she would not wear shorts. The vest honestly clashes with her personality as well. It's too trendy/flashy for her, and would hinder her work capability.

The hat disappoints me, as it is inaccurate, and completely deviates from the way her hat in the show looks. This is something that should be kept as it is, not changed.

The boots are another issue that clashes with her work capabilities. She would never wear something with a heel of any kind, much less a wedged heel, which are even more difficult to move in, than normal heels. She'd stick to simple work boots, maybe cowboy boots. The shoes you chose, would be far too difficult to manage her every day chores in.

I do applaud your choices with the gloves, wig, and tail, however. You and your group are the only ones I've seen to use tails, and since seeing Sasu at AX as Rarity, have been experimenting with adding a tail to my own AJ cosplay. The wig and tail color is perfect here, and not that awful yellow color I've seen from many other AJ's. And the gloves are highly original, and I very much like the idea of them. I have used gloves myself while cosplaying AJ, but never thought about putting an apple on them.

I also can appreciate your attempt with coloring your own skin the orange color. While it is something I will never do with my AJ cosplay, it is a very original concept for cosplaying the ponies, and an idea that I, as I said, can appreciate. The only skin issue I have, is that you do not have her freckles, which are a big part of who she is, and an identifier. She would just never look right without them.

I also like your pose, as it is very similar to the main standard pose I use for photos ^.^

Over all you had a fairly original concept, and simply floundered on some costume choices. But that is only my personal opinion, and how I see Applejack for myself, and how I relate to her. Why I chose her to cosplay. You of course have a right to cosplay her however you see fit, and however you view her.

This is mostly a critique for you and slightly a response to your other one because I was getting confused and slightly disagree with what she/he stated.. (I want to apologize for my childishness before hand. I would also like to state that I have no knowledge whatsoever of other cosplays of AJ and MLP in general so if I'm off on facts correct me.)

I don't think that there is anything wrong with your cosplay except for the mentioned cutie mark and hat.

Since AJ is a working pony then how does that restrict her wardrobe to no shorts? I assume (since I don't watch MLP :c) that she works outdoors. The summer is HOT, and not to mention, long jeans can restrict movement of the joints (bending, squatting, etc). Your top looks comfortable and fits you well in size, in my opinion, but we'll never know since it's only shown in a picture (not to mention only the back is shown). And the boots... the thing that got me to think more than really necessary... *smirks* (lol). I researched the character and apparently AJ is talented in "Applebucking". I think that your boots are perfect for one, being boots they give you more protection for your feet since AJ has to kick trees with her hind legs and two, give you the boost you need for the heels improve the speed to actually jump onto your hands (er... front legs....) to actually kick the tree. (Not to mention the wedged heel kind of provides the imagery of hooves though I don't even know if ponies have hooves....) *Nearly shorted out small brain for thinking this too hard* Freckles as an identifier? Don't get me wrong, it would have been a beautiful touch but it being a big part of who she is is more of an exaggeration. For an example, most cosplays include the hat, a southern looking shirt, and jeans. Maybe they have freckles. But you fully designed a complete personification of the character and wasn't lazy enough to come up with a casual/closet cosplay. The decorations of apples, skin color, the tail especially- how can this not be identified as AJ?

Originality: Finally, as much as your originality comes in, all you got was a pony with hair, a tail, a mark, and a hat. You didn't get a top, a vest, shorts, a belt, gloves, or boots. And compared to other cosplays for originality, you colored your own skin, and had before mentioned, vest, belt, and gloves (AND decorated with apples).

Technique: Towards your "Technique" I saw a lot of "thrift store" XD

Impact: Your impact on me was fairly high since I would have never thought of that though the shirt's a little... over done(???) I guess..

Vision: I love your pose and the look on your face:3 Hardworking and a little stubborn X3 Perfectly in character. Your choices of the costume is actually deeper than you thought as I just demonstrated XD (lol) The only thing that was bad towards the appearance was the cutie mark (which is a huge part of MLP) and the hat (which is a huge part of the character since AJ is usually seen with it). Don't misunderstand, these two details are VERY important when cosplaying as this character so don't miss out on it next time :<

Work out the details of the character your trying to portray next time? (Freckles is a nice touch... seriously... like REALLY.... its a really nice touch... I'm going to jump off a bridge now...)
