:bulletgreen: Mako from Legend of Korra :bulletgreen:

:bulletgreen: Photoshoot: We found a couple of areas that Duoshot or Jeriko took for us at AX, he was a wonderful guy and it was great having an impromptu photoshoot unexpectedly but I don't think any of our group had scouted the area out because of the lack of premature planning we didn't have any scenery. So I hope you guys can forgive us. I guess the subjects are all that really matter? ...No...I like backgrounds too haha. -Rubs head-

Also no one in this series has a last name- which is understandable! I guess...Tonraq and Senna were Korra's parents but they just call her Avatar Korra. Hahaha.

:bulletgreen:As for the costumes, I obviously created Mako's cannon outfit BUT I MUST STRESS I DID NOT DO THIS ALONE. Sometimes when it comes to patterns and fabrics I get confused, my Bolin, also known as *Admantius drafted a pattern for me that I used to create the entire outfit from then. No one helped me after that other than *Antiquity-Dreams to fix one of the shoulders so that it didn't look pinched because I was sewing three layers of fabric together just for one shoulder seam and it was frustrating me to the point of going cross eyed. Either way the costume came out great and I enjoyed wearing it despite all the people who teased me when I was in cosplay- which brings me to a specific point I had in mind.

Why is it that a lot of people are being so aggressive towards Mako?

Mako and Asami broke up before the team split up, Korra and Mako heading towards Amon, and Bolin and Asami off to diffuse the main forces of the resistance against benders. Their exchange, Mako saying sorry, and Asami's kiss on his cheek, was all they really needed to say for them. Just because it wasn't a public service announcement doesn't mean it didn't happen. They had already established that it wasn't going to work and it was a mutual break up that didn't require a dramatic flare. Yes the writers could have done a better job, but it's just the way Mako and Asami are. It's the kind of people they are. I would appreciate it if I didn't receive any more hate because "Mako and Asami never officially ended."

To read more about what I'm talking about specifically when I reference hate follow the link here: [link] This was my opinion on the general day of cosplay I had in Mako. To say the least it felt like, at least to me, that some people didn't want to distinguish, or in some cases, could NOT distinguish the difference between fantasy and reality. Costume Play is made to emulate a character, the art of it is to look most like the character as plausible, sometimes it can also attribute to things like Live Action Role Play -but for me, this only goes so far as in jest, and I do not actually consider myself Mako. So to address me in crass manner when you are a stranger, while can be considered entertainment and in good play, or flattery-, as how I have decided to take it, can also be taken very differently depending upon the individual. So to address the fandom I suggest to be a bit more cautious socially in reference to this costume or any costume in general. You may actually take someone's fun away if you don't exercise discretion.

This is also my opinion on LoK politics in general regarding racism: [link]

And because I love Penny Arcade, I can't help but add this: [link]

Either way I'm looking forward to the secondary shoot and must credit my entire group- even if some of them are not in this specific picture if it wasn't for their enthusiasm and love for the series I may not have done this at all.

Avatar Korra is
Bolin is :iconadmantius:
Asami Sato is :iconantiquity-dreams:
Mako is :iconsupernovadobe:

And of course~ Photography by: : Jeriko

Legend of Korra was co-created by Bryan Konietzko who has a Tumblr!: [link]

And Co-Creator and executive producer: Mike Dimartino- who also has a Tumblr!: [link]

I feel so small...when I see their work... XD

Sometime before the end of this month! We're also planning three CMV's - I can only hope my Asami and our Bolin can free up time/Our Bolin can buy a new wig...

Silly little brother left it in the car to melt x.x

...although we could always do a skit about me ruining his hair.

I was wondering if you guys would be doing Legend of Korra. lol I'm a big Amon fan (making his costume right now). I actually thought you would pick Bolin, but Mako actually suits you quite well. Amazing job on the costume.

There, strangely, aren't many Korra peeps (that I know of) in my area. Hopefully when I go to AWA I'll run into some.

I generally feel like it's possible that people have not gotten into the mind set yet that this is a form of art. It's easy to disrespect someone who cosplays because they put up a certain extent of themselves that is, in the words of *behindinfinity is open to a great deal of scrutiny. The artist themselves must conduct themselves respectively, and be just as respectable to other artists as well. This is how I view the art of cosplay- however, not everyone sees it this way. Some people really treated me like I actually legitimately WAS Mako. I'm not sure where this stems from, but it's an interesting psychological avenue I wish I had more time to exploit and explore.

Hm...I agree. I think the world of cosplay has a lot of offer in psycoloical study actually. I mean, I've asked myself loads of times why I do it. I know some people do it for the escape it gives them, and how they like to be other people for a change, but that's not really it for me. I just like making things. But why does it have to be cosplay? I'm an art major going into fashion with an interest in theatrical costume design, but none of that hits my buttons the way cosplay does.

But that aside, as much as I like playing in character and fooling around with other people who are getting into character there's a limit that shouldn't be crossed. It's fun to joke around and tease, but when you become genuinely lost into the character and start to hate on other people it's not good. Cosplayers are cosplayers, but they're also still people. You shouldn't be judged for your choice in characters. Unless, you know, you're in a costume contest or something.

I ask myself loads of times why I do it, but then I remember I love learning about how to do something, just talking about it makes me want to sew, just like talking about drawing, or anyone else's art, gives me the urge to draw! It's this insane itch I have to scratch!

Cosplay probably promotes the more artistic side of you because of the fact that it's different than being told what to work on in a class. While theatrics can also be fun, it's good to break away from the whole entire thing and keep your sanity.

It honestly didn't bother me as much as you would think, just like the hate on the 9gag site on my FB didn't bother me at all either. [link] despite all the bad they had to say, I don't let it shake me, because i'm not doing this for them, and their disrespect has no place in my life or my values goals or community. Just the same as someone disrespecting me because they actually feel as though I am a good target for their aggression against a character, it's misplaced, therefore a misunderstanding. I don't take it to heart, that would be far too much stress on me, and in my day to day I deal with enough so why purposefully add more to my plate?

I'm glad you have such a positive and nonchalant outlook. Unfortunately I'm still rather sensitive about my Cosplay, not from criticism from nonimes, but from other cosplayers. I'm really quite terrified of elitist cosplayers, even though I can be one myself, (only in private). (−_−;)I'm getting over it though. It's tough cus I'm starting to realize that I'm structuring my life around Cosplay and conventions. I'm moving into my basement to be closer to my Cosplay, I'm taking classes that can help me improve my Cosplay, I want to move to California, and I vowed to room with only people who Cosplay or at least are anime fans. My mom thinks its too much. Most of the time I disagree.

That's where most crit is actually coming from to be honest. If you're getting crit from the internet at all, it's probably because a cosplayer is behind it somehow.

As for being terrified...don't worry about it. Koi Cosplay has it's own crazy set of rumors that crop up every time we do anything (sometimes even breathing means that I'm satan.) For example, right now the internet thinks i'm a "Young virgin boy with no friends, and a failure of a Mako, and a failure in general...but also a virgin...did I mention that?." They may be right, I may actually be a young virgin boy who is a failure of a Mako and has no friends.

Who knows? Everything changed when the fire nation attacked.

So just don't let it get to you, the internet will think what it will of you, but just see it for what it is, if the internet was a person, it would have bi-polar tendencies, love you on weekends and holidays, and sometimes have traumatic spurts of anger and frustration...but you pay every month for this person to be in your life, so like any good street corner, utilize it!

I hpe the classes work for you! And I hope your mom can understand you or see eye to eye with you someday.

Sorry this took forever. I now have a job, so it sucks up my time. That and Kingdom Hearts. Goddamn that's an addicting game.

The internet scares me sometimes. But sometimes you gotta deal with it. Freedom of speech evolves into freedom of douche-baggery when anonymity comes into play...Man I really need to post something at some point. =-=. Ugh! Too lazy.

Your Mako cosplay makes me so happy I can't even stand it. Though I'm really sad I didn't get to see it at AX :( I saw Sasu as Asami, Ada as Bolin and Tema as Korra(and she is giving me awesome advice on my own Korra cosplay), but didn't get to see you as Mako! The photos are enough to show you me you're an amazing one though, and you portray him extremely well ^.^

I tried to stay with everyone as much as I could but I bet you ran into them when I was on bathroom break or something! Hahaha XD I was also kind of out of it that day so I'm kind of happy you didn't- I had a lot of pain from the car accident that had happened like two days before AX. -Mew face-

OH! Yea it was in my most recent journal- I updated it too but I'll take from the journal an excerpt because I used terminology that's hard to remember:

So...I got into a car accident. Which was... just what I thought would happen actually somehow. Don't ask me how, I had been a paranoid defensive driver for nearly three weeks, because of the ridiculous off-site chance that this could happen. Mostly because my record is clean, and I feel like some sort of demented hex may attempt to wear that down before the month was through. I suppose I was correct to feel that way- I got smashed into by a girl doing nearly 45 miles, rear ended, twice, which...I don't even know how that's possible. Either way I am recovering from it now.

I've been seeing a chiropractor ever since.

Edit: Apparently with the car accident came a slew of ever-persistant back problems that have just been bothering me, apparently my sternocleidomastoid (muscle group on the left side of the neck) has been swelling and inflamed since the accident. The inflammation spread into the area under my scapula (left shoulder blade) and has caused me serious issues doing regular work out routine. The pain just persists, always inflamed. I am hoping that regular visits to the chiropractor can help me heal.

I didn't put in the parts that really upset me but I was very saddened that the woman was honestly not paying attention at all. She didn't try to swerve, or break, or anything. She hit me twice, pretty hard, it's cost me a lot of money to rent a new car to continue my life with a vehicle and on top of that I don't get that money back. At least both insurance companies agree I was not at fault but the pain and upset and the PTSD (I can't drive without calming music on and I get freakish panick attacks whenever anyone follows too closely too fast.) Is just frustrating. On top of everything else she told her insurance I was partially at fault.

It's just upsetting and has been very violating and invasive to deal with.

The woman is just ugh.

Heh, my friend who was driving, his insurance went nuts. But that's because the car was completely totaled. We took a turn a little too fast, and there was sand on the road, and the car skidded. Then the brakes gave out, so we spun out, dipped down into a ditch, did a full flip in the air once, tumbled twice, then finally landed back on the wheels. Car looked like a crushed aluminum can. I still have pain and tightness in my neck, shoulders and back from it. I hope you can get better treatment than I did -hugs-

Thanks, I heard virgins hurt themselves when they laughed. I knew because the Internet posted this on a site, and so I visited and everyone said you were a virgin. So, like the judgmental follower I am, I mirrored their words.

WTF?! Blue Magnetism? YOU MIGHT AS WELL CALLED IT BLUE STEEL. Too bad you're a virgin and you'll never be as amazing as Ben Stiller or Hansel. You should aim that lightning to your crotch and give up, because you'll never be able to bend your virginity away. DID I MENTION YOU'RE A VIRGIN BOY?! STOP TRYING TO SEE IF YOU'LL AUDITION FOR THE NEXT MOVIE, YOU'LL NEVER MAKE IT! Only people like me who don't have their virginity can work with the mighty M. Night Shamalaamamamaamamamalan.

Dude... sorry to burst your bubble, but BOYS CAN'T BE LESBIANS. I know, I tried.
