+Durarara - On Guard+ by supernovadobe +Durarara - On Guard+ by supernovadobe
:bulletgreen: Shizuo - +Durarara+ :bulletgreen:

:bulletgreen: Photoshoot: So like my wife says, I have this insane obsession with Durarara. Mostly because of *EclecticManiac introducing it to me. I've been itching to get a photoshoot in for it since January when I debuted Shizuka- and just could not get around to it til I had a need jerk reaction and messaged John, our photographer, to come to LA Live and shoot myself and my wife.

LA Live was fairly accommodating venue despite all the talk of it being far too professional because he "can't have a reflector" and how Raven wasn't allowed to lie down.

At one point in the shoot I got asked to be in a picture, and the girl in question out of the blue said "It's pretty HOT down here!" And when I said "yea-" she grabbed my butt and full on slapped me. John's assistant Chloe was pretty flabbergasted, and so was I. The only one who walked away in stride was the girl.

I wanted to thank John or Jawn for coming down in such short notice of course, and waiting for us while we got caught up in LA traffic. He was a real pleasure to work with. As well as Chloe- who was just glorious.

:bulletgreen:Picture: The editing in this picture is based on the show, in the background of most scene depictions, there are individuals who are cloaked in gray if they have nothing to contribute to the series. Due to this look, I decided to photoshop one of my pictures to match that shade for anyone who was not myself.

:bulletgreen: Costume: Everything about this costume - I actually made the wrong vest randomly- everything was going well until I noticed I had done so. At that point I had to re-make everything, and *Antiquity-Dreams was more than willing to help me out because I was cutting sleep to get it done. I don't even know how this happened but I was so used to making Kotetsu vests I made a Black Tiger vest on accident. The wig was also styled by me, though I am not particularly fond of it. I'm wearing dickies, the same shoes as Mako, sunglasses I got from the dollar store, and the bow tie and shirt were purchased as well from local thrift stores. The prop/sign was made out of Eva Foam, and a PVC pipe.

:bulletgreen: The show and why I picked Shizuo. - My inspiration was drawn from his general personality. I loved him from the get-go. I am nothing like him for the most part however. He just struck me as a lovable character. His intentions are pure and I can appreciate his hesitation and really get inside his head on some aspects and relate to his fear of loving others as well.

The series caught my attention because of how intertwined it was, and some of the spoilers really caught me off-guard so I found it very enjoyable. However I dislike greatly how Izaya never gets any character development or redeems himself. I suppose that's the only complaint I could have.

DA is filled with sexy Shizuo's- good lord I cannot even begin to compare.

DRRR!! in Japan, is a Japanese light novel series written by Ryohgo Narita, with illustrations by Suzuhito Yasuda. I credit them of course for the inspiration.

I am a huge fan of this character and it takes a LOT for a person to impress me with a Shizuo cosplay. I have to say you have done it and I am absolutely pleased with what you have done.

Positives:
First of all I have to congratulate you on that sign, it is extremely well done and I love how you went for a bit of texture with the bent post, cement bottom, and chipped paint. It makes it all the more realistic.

I also love the blood, it adds that final touch that Shizuo should have and most people don't bother with any kind of injury or blood spatter which I find a bit disappointing most of the time.

The wig is also phenomenal, the color is just right and the cut is very accurate as well. Most people just slap on a short blonde wig and call it a day but I love how you take the time to actually style even a simple hairstyle accurately. It shows your love for the character.

NOW... there are a couple things I kind of find off...
The overall outfit is great but the one thing about it that is really bugging me is the belt. I don't know, it just seems so out of place for some reason... especially that style. Maybe just a slim black leather belt would work better?

Also, the sunglasses bug me as well. I think I'm just nitpicking at this point but Shizuo's glasses aren't color reflective or multicolor and they're not as opaque as yours. Trust me, I know it's hard to find accurate glasses for Shizuo, it took me a good three months to find a perfect pair but it just takes that extra time to look around. I just found mine randomly online through google.

Like I said, I'm a bit obsessed with this character so I get a bit nitpicky when it comes to accuracy... You are of course free to do as you like but those are just my suggestions.

Overall, EXCELLENT cosplay!!

I could imagine people walking by and being like, "Did that guy seriously pull out a stop sign?!"
If I had never seen durarara, then I would've freaked out  :D

Cool picture though! I love the lighting!

Hey girl, :3
I have been busy a bit, graduating and becoming a MA in Animation. Awww yeah!
So that's where my energy kinda went. So now I'm a working girl ^^

Great to hear from you - I feel so loved. Haha

And Durarara is awesome. We are currently on episode 12. Man, so exciting!
Shizuo is soooo cool. So funny, so energetic. And I love your cosplay of it. Very good energy. I think that's what you do very well: conveying the right energy with your character.

Normal 'studies' take about 4 years here. I've done a few before, but didn't finish. So I finished this animation-studies (I don't know if studies is the correct word - education-course?) and now I'm 26 and soooo through with going to school.
I am really excited to be a professional, but I am also scared shitless!

Aww thank you! I am always very happy to talk to you and hear from you as well. I think you are a very passionate person and with good energy, even over the internet I can feel this energy. It's a rare thing to find in people ^^

I would love to talk to you about the Netherlands- I love to hear about other cultures outside of my own- mostly what your school is like! You work so hard on all your projects, it's just so inspiring- so I never stopped following you for all these years since you made art for me and my wife back in like 08. <3 Gosh has it really been that long???
